What is Balloon Sinuplasty?
Balloon sinuplasty is a safe and effective procedure performed right here in our office. It provides you with a permanent solution to many of the chronic sinus symptoms you have been suffering. These symptoms may include sinus pain, pressure, headaches, phlegm, runny nose, snoring, sinus inflammation, blockage of the nose or post-nasal drip. By opening up the nasal passages, you will experience real relief from these symptoms.

How does it work?
Does it help chronic sinus problems?
Opening the sinuses can be done either with a balloon or with surgery. The balloon is a much more comfortable experience for the patient to go through because it is minimally invasive.
The ENT doctor numbs the nose. Next, a small balloon catheter is inserted into the sinus passage. The balloon is inflated and immediately removed. The sinus is now open. Inflammation goes down, bacteria go away, and secretions are cleared out.
All of your sinus symptoms will go away!
Start with Anesthesia
The procedure will begin with the application of local anesthesia to ensure your comfort. This can take up to 15-30 minutes.
Place Balloon & Expand
During the procedure, a thin instrument, with the balloon, will be guided through your nasal passages to the treatment area.
After being positioned, the balloon will be gently inflated for five seconds and then deflated.
The balloon may be repositioned and the inflation repeated.
Completed & Opened
When the dilation is complete, the instrument and balloon will be removed. A typical procedure takes approximately 1 hour.
Most people return to normal activity 24 hours after the procedure.

How safe is it?
Balloon sinuplasty is considered very safe and is an effective treatment when performed by a doctor. Its success rate is high, and the risk for complications is very low.
The procedure is done using local anesthesia. There is minimal bleeding and no hospital stay. The recovery time is very short as compared to other nasal surgical procedures. As with all surgical procedures, balloon sinuplasty is known to cause some minor symptoms, but these improve soon after the procedure.
Balloon sinuplasty is a low-risk procedure. This is because there is no cutting and no incisions. It is non-surgical and has a minor recovery and a minor list of complications, as does any procedure.
During the procedure, most people hear some crunching sounds, which is the sinuses getting opened up. People feel some pushing and pulling and most have no pain immediately after the procedure. Like having a tooth worked on, there is some tenderness with the Novocaine injection, but usually no pain with the procedure itself.
After the Novocaine wears off in a few hours, there may be some mild pain. Narcotics are not necessary. Tylenol or Advil are the most commonly used medication for any soreness.
People feel sore and feel groggy (from the sedative given) for about 24 hours. There is normally some mild drainage and bleeding for the first day. You can expect to return to your normal activities in 24 to 48 hours.
People that have balloon sinuplasty done on a Friday or a Saturday can expect to return to work on Monday nearly normal. You can expect that after a balloon sinuplasty, you will experience an improved quality of life.
